"Much as I admire Murray Perahia's extraordinary poise and refined fingerwork in the Mendelssohn sonata,
Bjelland digs a little deeper."
ClassicsToday.com rating 10/10
Here as in the Scarlatti pieces Bjelland is on excellent form, playing with imagination, taste and dexterity, whichever is required.

Brillianter Pianist!
Hagen Westfalenpost
As impressive as Behle is for the most part, the subtlety and expressive sensitivity of pianist Bjelland's performance could be perceived as stealing the show; although the balance between the voice and piano is good, the ear is inexorably drawn most strongly to Bjelland's spectacularly perceptive playing. His nuanced rhythmic flexibility and sense of pacing are superb.

Much as I admire Murray Perahia's extraordinary poise and refined fingerwork in the Mendelssohn sonata, Bjelland digs a little deeper. His heightened linear clarity and wider dynamic range underscores the first movement's kinship with the opening of Beethoven's Op. 101 sonata, and the way he leans into the first note of the downward diminished chord arpeggios (about 2:26 into the movement) is sheer magic.
Jed Distler, ClassicsToday.com 10/10
In the Mendelssohn Sonata, Bjelland responds to the demands of music that develops across a larger span. More famous pianists, including Murray Perahia, have made a case for this piece and Bjelland does not suffer unduly from such ambitious comparisons.

Reviews
"Norwegian pianist Sveinung Bjelland provides supple and strongly differentiated accompaniments; the contrast between the jauntiness of "Das Wandern" and the glistening shimmer of "Wohin?" is almost shocking."
"The quality of his music-making is matched in every detail in the pianism of Sveinung Bjelland, whose sensitivity to the texts is hardly less than Behle’s: you can almost hear him listening. "
